We are Harry & Hettie

After two long years of saving, dreaming, and scheming we are finally about to set off on an adventure of a lifetime… A motorcycle trip across The Americas: Alaska to Argentina.

Why The Americas?

Well, in a pre-covid world, Harry was planning his next cycle tour which just so happened to be of The Americas. Fast forward to a post-pandemic life, he finds himself with a lockdown love who would love nothing more than to join him on his next journey.

Harry

If I learnt how to ride a motorbike, would you come with me?

Hettie

Obviously.

Harry

Okay, let’s do it.

BUT, we can’t give Harry all of the credit here. Hettie had always dreamed of travelling in South America, however, she had a slightly romanticised version of this tale which resulted in her eventually becoming a Narcos Mafia Wife, and did not include travelling by motorcycle. Life is full of wonderful surprises.

So, it’s safe to say that a winning combination of Harry’s itchy feet, and Hettie’s lifelong yearn to travel has been more than an ample catalyst for this journey to begin.

However, it hasn’t always been all eyes on The Americas… Shall we go to India? Can you get a visa for Iran? Is China open yet? Or maybe we could go to Africa? How much does it cost to ship the bike? After much discussion and deliberation, we decided that The Americas is the adventure for us after all.

Our motorcycle of choice is a Triumph Tiger 1200 Explorer. Rather than shipping our Honda to Alaska for £2000+ we thought it would be wiser to purchase a used bike in Canada and ride up to Alaska.

So, here’s the plan…

We’ve flown to Vancouver, Canada, where we have bought a used Triumph. We’re now riding north through Canada, and into Alaska to our official starting point: Prudhoe Bay.

We then head south, back through Alaska and Canada to enter the mega land that is the USA, and we plan to see as much of this crazy cowboy country as we can.

Continuing south, we’ll ride through all of the Central American countries where we will then enter South America via a ferry from Panama to Columbia.

From here, we’ll continue to push south through as many countries as we can until we reach the “End of the World”, Ushuaia, the most southern tip of Argentina.
